Winterizing Your Long Island Home

Long Island winters are milder than upstate—but freezes still burst pipes, especially in rarely heated wings, crawlspaces, and seasonal homes left too cold.

Test heat before the first hard freeze. Know your thermostat settings if the house will be vacant. Insulate exposed pipes in vulnerable areas and disconnect outdoor hoses.

Service outdoor HVAC units as recommended for your system type, clear leaves from around equipment, and note unusual noises early.
